ABSTRACT

The effects on non-Newtonian rheology and total fluid inertia forces on the time-dependent pressure in a sphere-plate squeeze film are investigated. Comparing with the Newtonian case, the non-Newtonian effects of couple stresses provide a higher value of the time-dependent pressure. The influences of non-Newtonian couple stresses on the time-dependent pressure are more pronounced for sphere-plate squeeze film operating under a larger value of the non-Newtonian couple stress parameter, the oscillating amplitude, and the Reynolds number.
