ABSTRACT


In order to provide spectral efficiency in Digital video broadcasting ,the local content and global content are transmitted in single frequency Network with  Hierarchical modulation. Hierarchical modulation is a technique where two signals namely the high priority and low priority signals are embedded in a single constellation before transmission. Since the high priority signal determines the quadrant in which the signal falls and the low priority signal determines the location of the signal within the quadrant. High priority signal is always QPSK modulated and the low priority signal is Quadrature amplitude modulated .At the receiver the detection of the signal requires different decision rules for both streams. The High priority signal requires four decision rules and Low priority signal requires M rules framed with non zero threshold values for M order Hierarchical modulated QAM (HQAM)signal. This provides complexity to the system .In order to overcome that, a detector is proposed in this paper which requires same four zero threshold decision rules for both High priority and low priority stream.
